An independent perspective

Where history
finds a new expression.

LOPUD 1483 takes its name from the founding year of the Franciscan monastery it inhabits. On the northern edge of Lopud’s village bay, the restored complex brings a long architectural history into dialogue with art, gardens and the experience of a private stay.

01

A place shaped by time

Founded in 1483, the Franciscan Monastery of Our Lady of the Cave belongs to the island’s long cultural history. Its restoration was led by Francesca Thyssen-Bornemisza, working with Arhitektri and architect Rujana Bergam Marković. The result gives the building a new life while keeping its historic setting at the centre of the experience.

02

Art within lived space

Historic works and contemporary pieces share the restored monastery with carefully chosen furniture, including designs by Paola Lenti. Here, art belongs to lived space: it is encountered in rooms and passageways, in conversation with the architecture and the changing light of the island.

03

Gardens between stone and sea

Mediterranean planting connects the restored complex with its landscape. Between the monastery and fortress, the Sacred Garden adds a contemplative dimension to the property: another way of experiencing the relationship between history, nature and a private island retreat.

04

The scale of a private retreat

With five suites and exclusive use of the property, LOPUD 1483 is designed around a private stay. It should be approached as an individual enquiry, with dates, group needs and the intended experience discussed directly with the property.
